Profiling Saddam Hussein
Story aired: Thursday, March 20, 2003

After the first bombs dropped on Baghdad last night, Saddam Hussein appeared on Iraqi television. Some observers said he didn't seem like his old self.

He wore reading glasses, his face was puffy, and he spoke slowly. Of course, it may not have been the real Saddam Hussein, he keeps several look-alikes as decoys.

With his regime and his life in jeopardy, which side of the real Saddam Hussein are we likely to see now?

Guests:

Amatzia Baram, author of a recent sociological profile of the Iraqi dictator and professor of Middle Eastern history at the University of Haifa.
