Toughest Battle Will be for Baghdad Story aired: Thursday, March 27, 2003
From the beginning of the U.S.-led war in Iraq, the central strategic objective has been the same, control of Baghdad.
At this point, it seems the most optimistic scenario contemplated by U.S. planners has not played out. There's been no Iraqi coup, no mass surrender of Republican Guards.
Baghdad is home to 6 million Iraqis, a quarter of the population, a massive city spread over 2,000 square miles of flat land on either side of the Tigris River. How will Baghdad fall?
We're joined in the studio by Colonel Kalev Sepp, formerly with the U.S. Special Forces and Lieutenant-Colonel Ralph Peters, U.S. Army, also retired, and author of "Beyond Terror: Strategy in a Changing World."
