U.S Moves into "Red Zone," Counters Critics
Story aired: Wednesday, April 02, 2003

Elements of the 3rd infantry are reported just 25 miles from the Iraqi capital, with U.S. Army and Marine troops advancing into the so-called "Red Zone," the front outside of Baghdad.

Once inside, coalition troops become vulnerable to Republican Guard artillery and missiles, and possibly chemical weapons.

All this after the country's highest ranking military officer, General Richard Myers, denounced sniping about the war effort from retired military officers, as well as criticism from the media.

He also criticized negative assessments from a number of active duty officers in the field who've said the force brought to bear on Iraq has been insufficient.

Guests:

Colonel Bob Killebrew (Ret.), a former military planner for the 18th Airborne Corps.
