"The Generation of Trust" By David C. King and Zachary Karabell
A "Generation of Trust" and the History of Protest
Story aired: Wednesday, April 02, 2003

There was a time in America, when the Vietnam War raged, when trusting the U.S. military if you were young seemed almost a betrayal of what being young was all about, meaning idealism, instead of cynicism - peace and good vibes - instead of violence and anger.

Today, someone born in 1952, the Vietnam generation, has the lowest predicted likelihood of expressing confidence in the U.S. military.

However, young adults born after 1974 have the highest likelihood of confidence in the military. They are a "generation of trust" which happens to be the name of a new book by Zachary Karabell and David King.

Guests:

David King of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
