Forces Speculate Whereabouts of Hussein Story aired: Tuesday, April 08, 2003
It will take some time before it is determined whether or not Saddam Hussein is dead or alive after a U.S. plane dropped four bombs in an upscale neighborhood of Baghdad, where officials believe Hussein and his sons were having a meeting.
A two day summit between England's Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Bush is over. The president doesn't know if Hussein was killed but remarked that he's confident that Saddam is losing power.
Today, a U.S. tank fired on the Palestine Hotel, the home base for many foreign journalists reporting in Baghdad. Two journalists were killed and four journalists were reportedly injured.
Anthony Shadid of the Washington Post is one of the journalists staying at the Palestine Hotel. When the hotel came under fire, he was out at the 60-foot deep crater in the neighborhood of Al Mansour, where four one-ton-each bunker buster bombs were dropped in an attempt to kill Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Shadid joins Here and Now to discuss the latest developments on the whereabouts and status of Saddam Hussein.
