Total Victory in War
Story aired: Wednesday, April 09, 2003

U.S. military officials say the jubilation seen on the streets of Baghdad today represents the tipping point they'd been hoping for in three weeks of warfare. But it's unclear if it means victory.

This morning brigadier General Vincent brooks said even though fighting is one-sided right now, he doesn't see an immediate end to the conflict:

"We have not been at a ceasefire yet and we've taken many surrenders. At this point we have over 7000 Iraqi prisoners of war. And so there is no need for a ceasefire at this point to achieve that purpose."

So what would constitute victory in Iraq? Nation security expert Thomas Donnelly and war studies professor Mats Berdal join us to discuss the factors necessary for a total victory in Iraq.

Guests:

Thomas Donnelly, a national security expert at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC.

Mats Berdal, professor of security and development in the War Studies department at King's College, London.
