A defaced Saddam Hussein poster in Baghdad
Baghdad after the Fall
Story aired: Wednesday, April 16, 2003

In Baghdad, Iraqis are still without water and electricity, and some looting continues, despite a semblance of calm in many parts of the city.

To the desperate human cost of this invasion, add now a cultural toll.

Iraq's Ministry of Religious Affairs burned yesterday, taking with it thousands of centuries-old Korans - many of them illuminated and handwritten. This follows the earlier destruction of Iraq's National Library and National Museum.

Dick Gordon, the host of NPR's "The Connection," is in Baghdad and joins us to discuss what he sees there.
