Abu Abbas (AP)
Abu Abbas Captured
Story aired: Wednesday, April 16, 2003

Abu Abbas, a criminal from another time, was arrested yesterday in Baghdad by U.S. Special Forces,

Abbas hijacked the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985. Wheelchair bound American tourist and Jewish man Leon Klinghoffer was shot and thrown overboard.

Abbas is immune from prosecution in Israel under provisions in the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Accords, but Italy wants Abbas extradited and tried for murder.

Israeli Intelligence claims Abbas recently funneled money from Saddam Hussein to reward families of Palestinian suicide bombers.
