The Witness Cantata Story aired: Thursday, April 17, 2003
Sunday is Easter, when Christians celebrate what they believe followed Jesus' death on the cross, resurrection.
Rebirth is a theme composer Swanee Hunt explores in her choral work "The Witness Cantata," especially resonant this year after so many weeks of war in Iraq, and now the first, fragile steps toward peace.
Ms. Hunt wrote the cantata 15 years ago. She is not a full-time composer, and the work was written a few years before she became bill Clinton's ambassador to Austria.
It's a piece that's structured around Jesus' last seven words on the cross, words then interwoven with writings by people like Elie Wiesel and the poet Anna Akhmatova, who also endured suffering and overcame suffering.
The cantata is having its Boston premier Friday night, April 18, 2003. For information, please click on the link below. To buy a CD, call Hunt Alternatives at 617-520-2253 or email jan_smith@huntalternatives.org
