Yasser Arafat (AP)
Palestinian Cabinet Announced
Story aired: Wednesday, April 23, 2003

P.L.O. leader Yasser Arafat and Palestinian prime minister-designate Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, have announced agreement on the make-up of a Palestinian cabinet.

The U.S. has made it clear that without a new Palestinian government, the Bush administration would not help re-ignite Arab-Israeli peace talks.

The new agreement almost didn't happen. Abu Mazen stormed out on Arafat over the weekend; the two hadn't spoken in days. The deal came only hours before a midnight deadline.

Guests:

Molly Moore, Washington Post Correspondent.
