Nawal Nasrallah
A traditional Iraqi meal.
Iraqi Cookbook
Story aired: Wednesday, April 23, 2003

Nawal Nasrallah never planned on publishing an Iraqi cookbook at a time when America invaded her native country, but that's what happened. Raised in Baghdad, Nasrallah escaped Saddam Hussein's reign during the last war in the Gulf. Once in her adopted country, she realized she wanted to keep Iraqi culinary tradition alive for other refugees. She ended up finding a cuisine so ancient that it is derived from the world's first documented recipes, recipes that can be traced to what people in the region are eating today.

Reporter Rachel Gotbaum recently visited Nawal Nasrallah to share a meal and talk about her new cookbook, Delights from the Garden of Eden.
