Arvo P?: Passio
Holy Minimalism
Story aired: Monday, May 05, 2003

"Holy Minimalism" may not be a familiar term, but the kind of classical music it describes is extremely popular.

It's meditative, hypnotic, and repetitive, and depending on who you talk to, either beautifully or tediously so.

Ellen Pfiefer reviews:

John Tavener - "The Bridegroom and Other Works" performed by
Anonymous Four and Chilingirian Quartet

Arvo Part - "Passio: St. John Passion"

Peteris Vasks - "Symphony No. 2 and Violin Concerto Distant Light"
