Story aired: Tuesday, May 06, 2003

John Malkovich is a fascinating actor.

You wonder: "what are his characters thinking?" or "What's on his mind?" so much so that the film "Being John Malkovich" was written, in which characters literally climb inside his head.

Now actor John Malkovich has directed his first film, and fans will finally get to see through his eyes. It's called "The Dancer Upstairs" and is based on a novel by Nicholas Shakespeare, and loosely follows Peru's Shining Path revolutionary movement.

The film stars Javier Bardem as Augustin Rejas, a lawyer turned police detective, tracking a revolutionary who is wreaking havoc in an unnamed Latin American country.

Director John Malkovich joins us in the studio to talk about the film.

Guests:

John Malkovich, director, "The Dancer Upstairs."
