Cover deatil of "Last Stop Vienna" by Andrew Nagorski
Last Stop Vienna
Story aired: Wednesday, May 07, 2003

What if? A question history buffs and novelists love to hold up to the light of their imaginations to ponder.

What if, for example, President Kennedy never went to Dallas? What if they'd printed user-friendly ballots in West Palm Beach Florida in the 2000 Election? What if Saddam Hussein fell the first time around?

Author Andrew Nagorski's debut historical novel "Last Stop Vienna" is full of what-might have-beens concerning Adolph Hitler.

Now we don't want to give away too much away about the book and it's surprising climax, but we can contemplate as the book does: what if Hitler's obsessive relationship with his niece Geli had not ended in her mysterious death?

Andrew Nagorski joins Here and Now to talk about his new book, "Last Stop Vienna."
