Detail, "Deep Community" by Scott Alarik
"Deep Community" by Scott Alarik
Story aired: Monday, May 12, 2003

Pete Seeger, The Weavers, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan are the forefathers, and mothers, of folk.

But today, hot rising stars like Dar Williams, Alison Krauss, and Ani Difranco are defining folk music.

Here and Now folk critic Scott Alarik has just published a book that looks to the present and the future of folk music rather than focusing on the past, and he's in the studio to talk about the new work, "Deep Community: Adventures in the Modern Folk Underground."

Guests:

Scott Alarik, Here and Now folk music critic and author, "Deep Community."
