The rising sun at daybreak as a sentry keeps watch over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Female marines dressed in full battle gear marching into a pool to train for a "combat swim" at Parris Island in South Carolina.
These are just a handful of the images featured in "A Day in the Life of the United States Armed Forces," an enormous new book of photographs shot by 125 of the world's top photojournalists on one single day--October 22nd, 2002--at various locations throughout the world.
"A Day in the Life" offers an insider's view of life for new recruits, battle-hardened veterans, senior and junior officers, new grunts, and family members. It also has a forward by veteran World War II correspondent Walter Cronkite, accompanied by--what else- a photo of the dashing young Cronkite in his correspondent's uniform, pad and pen at in hand, ready to record history.
