Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. (AP)
Thoughts of Regime Change in Iran
Story aired: Thursday, May 29, 2003

In the Pentagon there's a small cluster of policy advisors and analysts who call themselves, jokingly, "The Cabal." The group includes people like Abe Shulsky, Douglas Feith, and Lewis Libby.

Their job is to second-guess intelligence readings by the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency. They have Donald Rumsfeld's ear and when they built the case for war in Iraq, they made a lot of enemies in the intelligence bureaucracy.

Intelligence experts that Here and Now spoke with say this group is now hard at work building a case for regime change in Iran.

Here and Now is joined by two of "The Cabal's" critics, Judith Yaphe, a research fellow at the National Defense University, and Vincent Cannistraro, former chief of counter terrorism operations.

Guests:

Judith Yaphe, a research fellow at the National Defense University

Vincent Cannistraro, former chief of counter terrorism operations.
