A Decade Under the Influence Story aired: Friday, May 30, 2003
In the late 60s and 70s, it seemed like most every movie that came out changed movies. New ways of seeing the country, the world --- new and revolutionary ways to create cinema. Then new names ignited their still enduring careers: Martin Scorcese, Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola, Dennis Hopper, Dustin Hoffman, and Donald Sutherland, just to name a few.
Movies like "Chinatown," "Easy Rider," and "The Godfather" were grittier and more realistic than Hollywood's standard fare, and pulled off the trifecta of winning over cynical audiences, high-minded critics and money-hungry studio executives alike.
Now the maverick spirit of the era has been captured in a new Independent Film Channel documentary, "A Decade Under the Influence," which is in theaters now and will be shown on IFC in August.
Here and Now's film reviewers Eric Schaefer and Renee Graham are in the studio to tell us what they thought of the film.
