Bel Canto
Bel Canto
Story aired: Tuesday, June 10, 2003

Music by Jimi Hendrix weaves through a new play by Daniel Alexander Jones, "Bell Canto." It premiered this past weekend in Boston at the Wheelock Family Theatre. The piece was written for the "Theater Offensive," an activist production group devoted to edgy exploration of gay and lesbian culture.

"Bel Canto's" script was further developed at the Sundance Institute Summer Play Lab in Utah, and playwright Jones says it's a coming-of-age story about a young African- American man named Benji.

Guests:

Daniel Alexander Jones, playwright, "Bel Canto"

Abe Rybek, artistic director of Theater Offensive

Jane Staab of the Wheelock Family Theater.
