Compass Record Beats the Odds
Story aired: Monday, June 16, 2003

The mainstream music industry is floundering in an historic decline that many experts say might be irreversible. Record sales were down 11% last year.

But all this seems to be very good news for the thriving world of independent record labels. Scott Alarik, Here and Now's folk critic, is here to tell us about one company that is beating the odds: Compass Records in Nashville. Scott says it's the very model of the modern music indie label, and that for Compass, these are the good old days.

Guests:

Scott Alarik, folk music reviewer and author.
