Joao Gilberto
Joao Gilberto
Story aired: Monday, June 23, 2003

Sometimes all it takes is one hit -- music that just suddenly, mysteriously takes over -- to put a musical style on the map.

Think about the song "The Girl from Impanema." The great Joao Gilberto wrote the tune, and without Gilberto, Bossa Nova would never have set the whole world swaying.

To sort out how Bossa Nova was born and why it still endures, Here and Now is joined jazz aficionado James Isaacs.

Guests:

James Isaacs, jazz reviewer
