It's been close to a year and a half since the first detainees from the Afghan war arrived at the U.S. military detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Almost 700 prisoners from over 40 countries remain there, held without charges.

Recently writer Ted Conover visited the prison at Guantanamo to investigate the conditions. His story appears this Sunday in the New York Times Magazine, and he joins us on the line from Portland, Oregon.
