Bishop Sean Patrick O'Malley (AP)
Vatican May Name New Bishop in Boston
Story aired: Monday, June 30, 2003

The National Catholic Reporter is reporting that the Vatican will soon name Bishop Sean O'Malley as the new bishop of the Boston archdiocese. O'Malley would replace Cardinal Bernard Law, who stepped down last December amid the church sex abuse scandal.

If the report is true, this would be the third post-scandal assignment for Bishop O'Malley. He was brought to his current post in Palm Beach only a year ago after two bishops were implicated in sex abuse scandals there. He also served as bishop of the Fall River diocese for a decade following the case of Father James Porter.

Guests:

Eric Macleish, an attorney currently representing alleged victims of clergy sexual abuse.
