Thousands Protest Anti-Subversion Law in Hong Kong
Story aired: Tuesday, July 01, 2003

It was a day of unrest in Hong Kong, as tens of thousands of residents marched through the streets to protest a planned anti-subversion law, which many people say could limit free speech and religious freedoms.

The demonstration was large enough to overshadow the sixth anniversary of Britain's hand-over of Hong Kong to china.

Joining Here and Now to discuss what's happening there, and why, is Washington Post reporter John Pomfret, who is based in Beijing.

Guests:

John Pomfret, The Washington Post.
