Welfleet Drive-In
Wellfleet Drive-In
Story aired: Tuesday, July 01, 2003

Summer on Cape Cod: sand, sea, and the drive-in. Once an important part of the summer scene, drive-in theaters have all but disappeared. One such theater, Te Wellfleet Drive-In, is still going strong.

Built in 1957 by local resident Don Gents, its giant outdoor screen is a landmark on the Cape. Over the years, Mr. Gents added a mini golf course, a restaurant, a flea market, and in 1986, an indoor cinema with four screens. Don Gent's died in 1998, leaving the complex to longtime employees Elenor Hazen and John Vincent Jr.

In an encore performance, we bring you producer Andrea Shea's tour of the drive-in.

Guests:

Eleanor Hazen and John Vincent Jr., owners of the Wellfleet Drive-In.
