The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Kite Runner
Story aired: Wednesday, July 09, 2003

The new novel "The Kite Runner" tells a story of innocence, betrayal, and a desperate struggle for redemption against the tumultuous background of the recent history of Afghanistan.

The country's the book's main setting, where much of what happens takes place, but it's also the novel's heart and soul, and the dream and nightmare the characters both long for -- and fear.

"The Kite Runner" is the first book of fiction that carried the story of Afghanistan right up to the rise and fall of the Taliban, and the first book by Khaled Hosseini.

Guests:

Khalid Hosseini, author, "The Kite Runner."
