Iraqi Interim Council to Run Country
Story aired: Friday, July 11, 2003

Iraq will have a new interim government starting this weekend, two and a half months after the war was declared officially over, and decades since it experienced anything even close to democracy.

The new governing council is made up of Iraqis who've returned home, along with a broad sampling of Kurds, Shiites, Sunnis, Christians, and Turkmen.

For now, though, Washington and London will still have ultimate authority there.

Guests:

Johnny Dymond, BBC reporter in Baghdad.
