CD cover detail, "Duetto" by Marcelo Alvarez and Salvatore Licitra
The Two Tenors
Story aired: Monday, July 14, 2003

First there were the Three Tenors: Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras, arguably the most popular male vocalists in opera.

Now the record label Sony Classics is marketing tenors of their own: Marcelo Alvarez and Salvatore Licitra, and Sony Classics is calling them the heirs to the Three Tenors.

The CD is called "Duetto" and this summer there have been TV appearances, a video, and live concerts.

Guests:

Ellen Pfeifer, classical music reviewer.
