Palestinian Pollster Tells of Attacks
Story aired: Tuesday, July 15, 2003

The findings of a leading Palestinian pollster were overshadowed this week when he was attacked and pelted with eggs by an angry mob.

Khalil Shikaki's study probed Palestinians about the so-called 'right of return,' the belief that 4 million Palestinians who once lived, or whose parents once lived, on land that falls inside Israel have the right to return there, something even Palestinian moderates concede would overwhelm and dilute the Jewish state.

Dr. Shikaki, director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research says the issue is perhaps a little more negotiable than previously thought. He joins Here and Now from Ramallah.
