North Korea Calls for One-on-One Talks with U.S. Story aired: Tuesday, July 22, 2003
The U.S. and China appear to be a step closer to negotiations with North Korea, whose state news agency reported yesterday that if the U.S. drops its "hostile" policy and commits itself to non-aggression, then the North Koreans would be "ready to dispel U.S. concern," perhaps a vague reference to ending their nuclear weapons program.
At the same time, President George Bush, seems to be shrugging off intelligence reports that North Korea may be operating a second, secret nuclear weapons facility. This report comes after North Korea announced 11 days ago it had reprocessed some 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods capable of making about a half dozen nuclear bombs.
