Story aired: Wednesday, July 23, 2003

Canada has recalled its ambassador to Iran after the Iranian government insisted on burying Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi in Iran.

Kazemi, born in Iran but a Canadian citizen, was arrested for spying and beaten to death in Tehran last month. Her Canadian family believes she was taking photos of distraught relatives of imprisoned student protesters, and they requested that her body be returned to Canada for an autopsy and burial.
