James Woods in "Northfork"
Northfork
Story aired: Friday, July 25, 2003

When filmmakers Michael and Mark Polish were kids, their father took them to see the remains of a Montana town purposely flooded by the opening of an immense dam. Their grandfather helped build that dam, and the eerie images of beautiful houses underwater, a church steeple poking up through the surface, stuck with the twin brothers for years.

Now the memories of that long-dead town have been resurrected in their new film, "Northfork." The movie is set in Montana, 1955, and follows the town's residents as the government forces them to evacuate their homes and they build new lives elsewhere. James Woods stars as one of six agents charged with encouraging reluctant citizens to leave, Daryl Hannah plays one of four angels who watch over Northfork, and Nick Nolte is the local priest who runs the Norfolk orphanage.

Guests:

Renee Graham and Eric Shaefer, film reviewers

Father Richard Blake, film teacher Boston College and movie reviewer for the Catholic magazine, "America."
