U.S. Soldiers in Baghdad, Iraq. (AP)
U.S. Changes Tactics in Iraq
Story aired: Monday, July 28, 2003

In central Baghdad today, unknown assailants dropped a grenade from an overpass onto a U.S. military vehicle and seriously wounded two American soldiers. Witnesses say the soldiers died, although there is no official confirmation yet.

In the last 10 days, 16 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq, making it the deadliest period for U.S. forces since Saddam Hussein was toppled in April.

The Pentagon says U.S. forces are more vulnerable lately because they have adopted a new, aggressive strategy in Iraq, especially in the area from Baghdad north to Tikrit, a region with deep ties to Saddam Hussein.
