Pentagon Cancels Futures Market
Story aired: Tuesday, July 29, 2003

There are reports this morning that U.S. intelligence officials are predicting the possibility of new terrorist attacks this summer, similar to the airplane hijackings of 9/11.

The information, reported in today's Washington Post, comes from interviews with high-level Al Qaeda captives, and was allegedly corroborated by intercepted emails and other means.

Meantime, the Pentagon is scrapping its controversial plan that would have allowed investors to bet on terrorist acts, much the way the futures traders bet on pork bellies.

After protests from two senators, and media coverage, the plan was scrapped late this morning.
