Charlie Haden
Bassist Charlie Haden
Story aired: Thursday, July 31, 2003

Host Robin Young visited Berklee College of Music in Boston last winter to hear a performance of legendary bass player Charlie Haden.

Matt Glazer, head of the string department at Berkley College of Music in Boston, led about three dozen students in a rehearsal with a band of jazz musicians that included tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker, drummer Brian Blade, pianist Alan Broadbent, and the bandleader and legendary bass player Charlie Haden.

Charlie Haden has spent most of his 65 years in music. His new CD is a tribute to great American composers, and he's played with many of them. The album is called "American Dreams: A Lyrical compilation of Beautiful American Songs."

Guests:

Charlie Haden, jazz bass player.
