A U.S. soldier in Baghdad, Iraq (AP)
The Fate of Collaborators in Iraq
Story aired: Friday, August 01, 2003

Secretary of State Colin Powell announced yesterday that the man who alerted the U.S. military to the whereabouts of the sons of Saddam will receive the promised $30 million reward.

Which may make him even more of a marked man.

One man's informant is another man's snitch. American forces say they can pay them, usually only around $25 dollars, but they can't protect them.

As reporter Anthony Shadid writes in today's Washington Post, sometimes it's the informant who pays, with his life.
