The Way of the Ship
Story aired: Friday, August 01, 2003

It is the close of the 19 century, the last, greatest days in the age of sail. This is the era that is recreated, with all its romance and hardship, in a new book "The Way of Ship" by author Derek Lundy.

The book tells the story of the Beara Head, a square rigger that, like real ships of the era, is 300 feet long, with a hull of iron and masts as tall as a sixteen-story building.

So when here and now producer Allan Coukell set out to interview Derek Lundy, it seemed only appropriate that they meet under canvas. The ship they found, a real one, was the Liberty Clipper, which sails in Boston Harbor.
