Arafat Detains Militants at Compound
Story aired: Monday, August 04, 2003

There is a war of wills underway inside the embattled compound of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

This weekend, Arafat had 17 Palestinian militants brought to his office where he held them at gunpoint and told them they would be sent to a Palestinian prison in Jericho, reportedly as a way to demonstrate that he was getting tough on terrorists.

The detainees are still in Arafat's compound and negotiations are underway to determine the terms of their imprisonment.
