Critics Threaten Split Over Gay Bishop Appointment

Nineteen of the 45 dissenting bishops in yesterday's historic vote in the Episcopal Church are protesting the outcome. .

The Anglican bishops voted 62 to 45 to elevate the Reverend Gene Robinson to bishop, making him the first openly gay bishop in the church's long history.

The dissenting bishops declared a "pastoral emergency" and asked God to have mercy on the church.
