Cover detail, "Robert E. Lee" by Roy Blount
Robert E. Lee, Part II
Story aired: Thursday, August 07, 2003

Hero in the South, enemy in the North, General Robert R. Lee, the leader of the Confederate Army was a complicated man, a reluctant leader, and to Southern writer and humorist Roy Blount, Jr., largely misunderstood.

Blount has written a new biography on the Southern general called "Robert E. Lee." We conclude our conversation with Blount about the Virginian who led half the country in a time of Civil War and even today remains an important symbol in American history.

Guests:

Roy Blount, Jr., writer and humorist.
