Official Makes Iraq Chemical Weapons Claim
Story aired: Friday, August 08, 2003

The former top U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq has told Congress that Iraqi forces were ordered to attack American and British troops with chemical weapons as they advanced on Baghdad. But the Iraqi military apparently didn't have the time or capability to execute that order.

David Kay, who is now the chief U.S. investigator in the hunt for Iraq's banned weapons, spoke last week before the Senate Armed Services Committee and Intelligence committees. He reportedly told the committees that his team is making "good progress" and has obtained the cooperation of a number of Iraqi scientists.
