Missile Sting Nabs Suspected Dealer
Story aired: Wednesday, August 13, 2003

A court appearance this morning for the British man accused of trying to sell a shoulder-fired missile to undercover agents who posed as Muslim terrorists interested in targeting airliners.

Hemat Lakhani was caught in an international sting operation yesterday. U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Christopher Christie said investigators have hours of Lakhani on tape praising terrorists.

Missile threats have been a concern since terrorists failed to bring down an Israeli airliner with a missile last November in Kenya. Just in the past month, U.S. officials received intelligence indicating another possible missile attack. Experts had fanned out to assess airport security worldwide and today British Airways suspended flights to Saudi Arabia, citing unspecified security concerns.
