Episcopal Church Debate Story aired: Wednesday, August 13, 2003
The Archbishop of Canterbury is calling for an emergency summit in October, a splinter group of Episcopalians is organizing it's own meeting in Texas, and a dissenting group of Episcopal bishops is preparing to ship "educational materials" to parishes across the nation.
All in reaction to the election of the first openly gay Episcopal bishop, Gene Robinson, chosen by his parishioners in New Hampshire and confirmed by a majority of his peers last week.
Pittsburgh Bishop Robert Duncan was one of more than a dozen bishops who walked out of last week's Minneapolis conference after the election results were announced, calling them "pastoral emergency."
