Convicted Priest Geoghan Killed in Prison Story aired: Monday, August 25, 2003
No one has devoted himself more passionately to victims of sexual abuse by priests than Boston attorney Mitchell Garabedian. From a strictly workaday office, without any of the usual elegant refinements of lawyers negotiating multimillion-dollar settlements, Garabedian began his advocacy before the behavior of some Catholic priests had become a storm of headlines in recent years. The attention on criminal, predatory activity by priests began with accusations against John Goeoghan, the priest once known affectionately as just "Father Jack," who later was convicted of sexual abuse. Geoghan was murdered this weekend by another inmate at a Massachusetts prison. Mitchell Garabedian has worked for dozens of now-grown men who were abused by Geoghan as children.
