Sally Field as Norma Rae
Videopicks
Story aired: Friday, August 29, 2003

Fritz Lang's 1927 silent film, "Metropolis," was one of the earliest to dramatize the plight of exploited workers, and through the decades directors have updated these stories with contemporary characters and scenarios. In 1987 John Sayles gave audiences a story about a labor union organizer who tries to liberate miners from their heartless grip of their company. And Martin Ritt did the same for textile workers in "Norma Rae," starring Sally Fields and Ron Leibman.
