Palestinian Parliament speaker Ahmed Qureia (AP)
Ahmed Qurei Agrees to Palestinian PM Job
Story aired: Monday, September 08, 2003

The man Yasser Arafat has proposed as the next Palestinian prime minister says he won't take the job unless the United States guarantees that Israel will follow the road map to peace.

Ahmed Qurei is expected to tell Arafat this week whether he'll take over for Mahmoud Abbas, who resigned just days ago.

Ahmed Qurei's appointment comes as Israel continues attacks against leaders of Hamas, and as Islamic radicals vow more violence.

Guests:

Rami Khouri, executive editor of the Daily Star newspaper in Beirut.
