Muslim Chaplain Detained for Alleged Espionage
Story aired: Monday, September 22, 2003

A U.S. Army chaplain has been detained on suspicion of aiding the enemy.

Captain Yousef "James" Yee, one of few Muslim military chaplains, had been ministering since November to the 660 Al Qaeda suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

When he was arrested in Florida on September 10th, Captain Yee was allegedly carrying diagrams of the military detention facility, along with lists of names of detainees and military personnel at the prison.

Yee is a West Point graduate, the son of Chinese immigrants, raised a Lutheran in Long Island. He converted to Islam and studied in Syria after serving in the first Gulf War.

He is now being held in a military brig in South Carolina.
