Cover, "Live at the Blue Note" by Michel Camilo
Michel Camilo
Story aired: Thursday, September 25, 2003

There's something decidedly different about a Michel Camilo concert. At the end of a set, when he rises to receive the audience ovation, this jazz pianist bows from the waist with the flourish of the classical pianist he once was, and still occasionally is.

Born in Santo Domingo in 1954, Michel Camilo composed his first work at the age of five. A classical conductor, he's as comfortable with Rrimsky Korsakov as he is with Dizzy Gillespie. His recordings consistently spend time on the Billboard Top Ten Jazz Album list and he's just released a new one, "Live at the Blue Note."

Guests:

Jose Masso, Latin music critic and host of WBUR's "Con Salsa!"
