White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan faces reporters' questions at the White House, Sept. 29, 2003 (AP)
Justice Department Investigates Spy Leak
Story aired: Tuesday, September 30, 2003

White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan calls allegations that a CIA agent's identity was leaked by someone in the Bush administration a very serious matter.

The Justice Department thinks so, too. Its investigation moved from preliminary to full-blown this morning. The department will formally investigate whether administration officials broke the law if they told journalists Wilson's wife worked for the CIA. The White House has declined to start up an internal investigation, and Democrats are calling for an independent inquiry.

Guests:

Eric Lichtblau, The New York Times.

Thomas Mann, a Congressional scholar at the Brookings Institution.
