A new peace deal has been negotiated between Israelis and Palestinians.
The deal is the result of secret, unofficial talks between Israeli activists, including some senior Labor Party officials, and Palestinian negotiators.
It was brokered by Swiss diplomats in Geneva over many months, and is said to contain at its heart a key compromise: Palestinians would get sovereignty over the Temple Mount area, and in exchange they would give up the right of return for refugees.
The so-called Geneva Accord has no official standing, and has been condemned by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Reports say Yasser Arafat approved the secret negotiations.
